Edward "Eddie" Adkins

Edward Ronald Adkins, age 66, of Northwood Ohio, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 15, 2021, in his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on August 6, 1954, in Oregon, Ohio, to Howard M. and Mary Ann (Dacey) Adkins.  "Eddie", as he was affectionately called by many of those close to him, was a lifelong resident of Northwood, Ohio.  He attended Northwood Schools and the Penta Career Center.  Eddie spent his entire career in construction, in which he took great pride, and his talent and attention to detail was unmatched.  From concrete, to carpentry, he was known to do it all.  He was also a gifted musician.  After learning to play the drums as a teenager, Eddie sat as a member of many bands over the last 50 years, performing all genres and styles of music.  He loved playing pool, poker, camping, traveling and cooking; especially his famous "Pigs in a Blanket" cabbage rolls.  Eddie was proud of his 20 years of sobriety from alcohol and was continually a humble friend and encourager of many working through recovery.  He cherished his program and lived "one day at a time".  Above all else, Eddie loved spending time with his wife, family and friends, who he considered the most important people in the world to him.  He was known for his easy-going personality, the way he would go above and beyond to help anyone who needed it, and for his relaxed sense of humor.  He was a special man and loved by many.

Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Charleen; children, Alison (Steve) Zechman, Andrea (Javier) Aguilar, and William Adkins; stepchildren Jerry (Marty) Tanner, Jim (Allison) Tanner, Scott (Kaitlin) Hartzell, Ronnie Hartzell, and Rachel (Cory) Hartzell; ten grandchildren; brothers, Larry (Debbie) Adkins and Howard (Darla) Adkins; many nieces and nephews; extended family; faithful canine companion, Little Bit; and countless friends he considered family.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents.  Eddie's presence in our lives will be missed immensely, but we are comforted knowing that he is now healed and in the presence of The Lord. 

Family and friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd, Oregon, Ohio, on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the funeral service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Social distancing and precautions are asked and appreciated for the health and safety of Eddie's family.

The family asks any memorial contributions be made to Eddie's wife, Charleen, to assist with medical expenses.

Special appreciation is extended on behalf of Eddie and his family to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for all of their care and compassion.  Abundant gratitude is sent to all of the countless family and friends for the outpouring of love, prayers, generosity and support during Eddie's illness and at this time.
