Evelyn Cooper Obituary

Evelyn U. Cooper, 87, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021 at Advent Health Celebration Hospital in Kissimmee, FL surrounded by her loving family. She was escorted to Heaven by her Angels and greeted by her Heavenly Father and family. She smiled before she took her last breath on earth, seeing her first glimpse of Heaven. She was born on April 16, 1933 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Harold and Udella (Goodwin) Bassler. Evelyn and her family moved to Toledo in 1937. It was always a highlight for Evelyn and her brothers to watch the Ringling Bros. Circus come to town on the train and walk the animals by their house to the Sports Arena. She later enjoyed doing this with her children. She graduated from Waite High School in 1952 where she was president of her senior class. She was also a member of the swim team. Evelyn was an excellent cake decorator. She worked at Federal Bakery in downtown Toledo decorating cakes in the storefront window where she would catch the streetcar to get there. She met the love of her life, George, when she was working at Goons Drug Store in East Toledo. He would come in for his daily strawberry ice cream cone. Evelyn and George were married on December 29, 1953 in Williamsburg, Kentucky enjoying 66 years of marriage until George’s passing last July. Evelyn was a “fuss button”, as she would say, taking pride in herself, her family and her home. She enjoyed playing the piano as well. She was an excellent cook and baker; everyone loved her famous Jim Dandy cookies. She was always making sure everyone had plenty to eat. Evelyn and George loved taking their children on yearly vacations to Florida starting in 1966 where many fond memories were made in Daytona Beach and later in Indian Rocks Beach. She also enjoyed going to Kentucky and spending time with her sisters and brothers-in-laws. Evelyn loved being around her family and friends and playing games. Evelyn and George were part of the first 17 that started Calvary Bible Chapel in 1951 where they were lifelong members. She sang in the choir there for many years. She worked at Riverside Hospital in the Emergency Department as a Unit Secretary from 1977 until she retired in 1990.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Gary (Karen) Cooper; daughter, Sherrie Cooper; Mike Peterson, grandchildren, Kristi (Joel), Jodi (Robert) and Jamie; great-grandchildren, Logan, Landon, Rosie, Liam, Selah and Kendall; honorary grandchildren, Richard Ferguson and Kate (Patterson)Balderez; brother Ralph (Wanda) Bassler; sisters-in-law, Irene Bassler, Peggy (Don) Inks, Mary Jo Bunch; brother-in-law, William Moses and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, granddaughter Kaili Sabo and brother Harold.
