Judy Patricia Szewczak

Judy Szewczak, 65 of Toledo, Ohio passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 22, 2018.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Monica.   

She was born on March 16, 1953 in Toledo, Ohio to Stanley and Monica (O’Neill) Szewczak.  Judy was a graduate of Bowsher High School in 1971 and the University of Toledo with both a Bachelor’s in 1981 and a Master’s degree in History in 1987.  She became a teacher with Toledo Public Schools; where she taught at Scott, Macomber-Whitney, and Bowsher High Schools.  Teaching, expecting excellence, and inspiring young people was Judy’s gift, evidenced by countless interactions with former students who always reminded her how tough her classes were before updating her on their lives.  Judy loved to spend time with her family, especially her great-niece and nephews, whom she found endlessly entertaining and often filled with sugar treats she provided.  She loved to travel, walk her dogs, have lunch with friends, play trivia each week, and watch Jeopardy nightly.  Her love for animals was a lifelong passion, starting with her beagle named Duffy that she conned her parents into, to the hundreds of animals she fostered for Planned Pethood and thousands she supported through Humane Ohio. 

She is survived by her love of 32 years, Bob Breese; siblings, Linda (Jim) Tolosano, Anita (Jack) McLaughlin, Janet Albright Rideout (Richard), Sue Broadway (Mark Furrer), and James (Pam) Szewczak;, her nieces and nephew, Michelle Albright (Dave) Peters, Lyndsey Albright (Chad Kruse), John (Amanda) Broadway, III, Payton and Morgan McLaughlin, and Samantha Szewczak; and her great-niece and nephews, Finnegan and Tate Peters and Myles, Colin, Liam, and Rowan Broadway; and many lifelong friends who were considered family.

In lieu of a funeral, a celebration of her life will be held on Friday, August 24 at Heatherdowns Country Club from 2-5 pm with a tribute starting at 2:30, where the family would love for you to share your favorite Judy stories.  Donations can be made in her name to the Judy Szewczak Scholarship Fund at Key Bank on 2161 Byrne Rd Toledo, OH 43614 or at any Key Bank location or to Planned Pethood organization.
