Mary Catherine Wasserman

Mary Catherine (Dippman) Wasserman of Oregon, OH died Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the age of 101. Mary was born to John and Vallie Dippman in Oregon, OH on April 8, 1919. Mary was a lifelong parishioner of St. Ignatius Parish and attended grade school there. She decided not to pursue high school as she opted to stay home to help her parents raise several foster children.

Mary married Harold Wasserman and raised two sons, Frank and Rick. She worked for several years for Oregon City Schools in the cafeteria as well as at Chippewa Golf Course in the dining room and snack bar. She was well known for her delicious pies, often being asked to bake one for special birthdays and events. She also loved to travel and explored many different cities with her group of girlfriends. She was often said to be the life of the party.

Mary devoted much of her life to volunteering and being of service to others. She was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society, was in charge of organizing the parish's funeral luncheons for many years, played Bingo with residents at Little Sisters of the Poor, among many others. She lived as a wonderful example to her children and grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her sons Frank (Sharon) and Rick (Julie); sister Coeline Hassen; sister-in-law Elsie Dippman; grandchildren Julie (Steve) Swartz, Diana (Jeremy) Robinson, Nick (Abbie), Cara (Josh) Johnson, Matthew (Rachel), and Riley as well as 8 great-grandchildren with one more on the way. 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her sisters Gertrude Jurski and Lillian Dreier; brothers Michael and Herbert; and grandson Frankie.

Being the stubborn lady she was until the end, she chose to leave this life and join her youngest great-grandchild, Reed Robinson, in Heaven just 5 hours after he passed away to do what she loved best, hold a baby in her arms.

Mary will be laid to rest at St. Ignatius Cemetery. A memorial mass will be scheduled at a later time.  Memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. Ignatius Catholic Church.  Arrangements entrusted to Freck Funeral Chapel.
