Robert Julian Mendoza

Robert Julian Mendoza age 86, of Toledo passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022 at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg. Robert was born on December 22, 1935 to Mauro and Margaret (Bartus) Mendoza in Toledo, Ohio. He was a champion Golden Glove Boxer representing Toledo in my national tournaments.  He left Waite High School early to serve our country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. During the Korean War and was later awarded an honorary diploma. Bob was very active in the American Legion joining them at 18 years old. And For many years supporting Veterans and Veteran Affairs in the City of Toledo. He was awarded Citizen of the Year by the City of Toledo and was inducted into the Birmingham Hall of Fame. Robert was a volunteer for the Special Olympics for many years and was honored with Volunteer of the Year. 

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Emma Lou Mendoza; children Robert, Daniel, Richard, Catherine (David) Shellhammer, and Roberta; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and brother John (Patty) Mendoza. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private services were held at the American Legion Adams Township Post 553. Arrangements were entrusted to Freck Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions are appreciated to FOPA or the Marine Corps League.
