Robert Henry Shaffer Sr., 62, of Reno Beach passed away peacefully at home February 28, 2020. Rob was born to Omer and Marcella (Smalley) Shaffer on March 29, 1957 in Jacksonville, Florida. Robert joined the U.S. Army in 1977. He worked for many years at Jeep Chrysler Toledo. Rob was a man that gives the true meaning of a great father. He was known as a strong, kind, caring but stern man willing to go out of his way to help others. He was such a helpful caring man he would give anyone the shirt off his back. The values he lived by were Truth and Integrity. He taught his children to not fear the truth because lies are more damaging. Rob believed that protecting and honoring your family was more important than material things. He believed that sometimes you have to stand alone “like a provider would” and he believed that no matter what knocks you down in life, you have the grace and strength in you to stand right back up and overcome. Rob loved to go fishing, ride his motorcycle, hang out with friends and family and have a beer.
Left to carry on his legacy are his loving children, Robert (Nikki) Jr. and Janet; grandchildren, Austin, Justin, Ryan, Kaden Shaffer, Torie Dunbar and Joshua Dunbar; great-grandchildren, Deontay and Malachi Walker; siblings, John (Caral) Ron, Mike (Cheryl), Chris (Arlene), Mary, Laura, Frank (Evelyn), Helen (Al) Groll, Jody (Calvin), and Denise (Mark) Leese. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Connie Smalley, and grandson, Brandon Shaffer.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, from 2 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m.
