Virginia Susan Dewey

Virginia Susan Dewey, 68, passed away November 20, 2021 at Toledo Hospital. She was born May 25, 1953 to Thomas and Virginia Cattell. Susan had Juvenile Diabetes for more than 60 years, a chronic condition, which she never let slow her down. She married Bill Dewey in 1975, and they had two children, Sarah and Daniel. Susan was a Michigan State and University of Toledo alumni. She taught home economics and later a program for pregnant and parenting teenagers. Following retirement, she spent several years working at The Gathering Place.

Susan spent much of her time helping others, volunteering at the Family House, the Laurel Mission, and Main Street Church. She loved working with children, watching Michigan State, The Beatles, quilting, biking, gardening, and making her famous buckeyes. Susan preferred to stay busy, and loved spending time with friends and family, especially her granddaughter Claire.

Susan is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Sarah (Michael) Melchiorre, son Daniel, granddaughter Claire, baby Melchiorre, and many friends.

Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held at Mainstreet Church, Walbridge, OH, Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) or The Laurel Mission in Big Laurel, Kentucky.
