Catherine (Smith) Ruiz

Catherine Ruiz, 51, of Toledo, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at her home. She was born in Toledo on April 21, 1965 to John L. and Delores (Thomas) Smith, Sr. and was a 1983 graduate of Waite High School. Cathy had a nurturing spirit and found enjoyment in tending to her many house plants and caring for all her feline friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting; but most of all Cathy cherished time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Shawn Ruiz; daughter, Crystal (Ted) Ogdahl; siblings, Patricia (Charles) VanDorn, John L. (Tina) Smith, Jr. and Tim Smith; nephews, John Smith, III, Josh and Brock VanDorn; nieces, Lauren Smith and Nicole Morrisey and former husband, Al Ruiz. Her parents preceded her in death.

In honoring Cathy’s wishes services will remain private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Toledo Area Humane Society.
