Robert D. "Bob" Folk

November 27, 1943 ~ April 24, 2016 (age 72) 72 Years Old

Robert D. Folk, 72, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2016, after a lengthy battle with Leukemia (AML).  He was born on November 27, 1943 to Margeret (Tornai) and Robert Folk, who was killed April 10, 1944 in WW II.  He attended Macomber High School where he ran Cross Country and the University of Toledo where he majored in Production Management and was a cum allude graduate.  He served in the U. S. Air Force for over four years, stationed primarily in Nebraska with the Strategic Air Command.  Upon his discharge, he started his civilian career with the former Haughton Elevator before joining Chrysler Corporation two years later.  His career with Chrysler spanned 32 years, starting at the Perrysburg Machining Plant and included working at the Division and Corporate level.  One of the major highlights was his involvement with the Viper engine program as an Advanced Manufacturing Engine Specialist.  Upon retirement in 2001, he ventured into substitute teaching for the Oregon School System.  Over the thirteen plus years as a sub, he truly enjoyed the experience and was frequently heard to say that he wished he had been a teacher.

Bob enjoyed life to the fullest.  He relished playing in competitive amateur sports including hockey, road races, triathlons, softball, etc.  Hockey was, by far, his favorite activity.  Having started the Toledo Senior Hockey League and serving as its League Director, he also refereed at the college, high school and youth levels as a member of the Amateur Hockey Association of the United States and the Ohio High School Athletic Association.  Bob has served as the Northwest Ohio hockey referees representative to the Ohio High School Athletic Association as well as its local secretary. Bob also refereed a couple of Toledo Goal Digger Games.

In his retirement, Bob had time to advance his wood carving talents.  His carvings on the local scene have garnered numerous awards, including a “Best of Show”.  In national competition, he has numerous ribbons for his humorous caricatures.

He was also a member of Paragon Lodge and the Oregonian Club where he served as Trustee and President.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Darlene (Johnson), beloved brother, Darrell (Carol) Meece and sons Michael (Lynn), Marc and Matthew (Lindsey) Folk.  All three sons were the pride of Bob’s life.  Also surviving are his four step-daughters, Teri and Ashley (Erin) Waugh, Michele (Steve) Brinkley and Natalie (Matt) Schleupner; seven grandchildren (Chelsea, Cory, Collin, Anna, Holden, Troy and Emma).

Bob would like to thank the Oncology nursing staff at Flower Hospital, Short Stay nurses at Bay Park Hospital and Dr. G. Mark Burton.
